Lockdowns have nothing to do with it.

Hmmm... I lived it. And I think you are wrong. Lockdowns work - If you do them and don't keep sneaking out to break the rules. We pretty much did stay home & only went out for the basics of exercise, food & care giving. We eliminated in the winter... We did it twice in Victoria.

We in Australia have not yet experienced it in Summer. Started in Autumn, went to through winter spring.
Brazil which is pretty warm all year round had a high rate of cases.

There never was a first wave in Australia but they had to fake one to make it appear this 'virus' wasn't seasonal. The irony is that they didn't do anything to stop the "second wave" other than wait until spring/summer when respiratory illnesses disappear.
